TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return)

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Return. This program is for unowned, stray and feral cats in Macon County only.

Cats who are brought through our Spay/Neuter Clinic are spayed or neutered, given a long-acting pain injection, vaccinated, ear-tipped and given a small green tattoo to identify them as sterilized. It is ideal for the trapper/caregiver to house the cat in a dog crate, small bathroom, etc. for at least 24 hours to ensure a full recovery from anesthesia. Our clinic is not a full-service clinic, any veterinary care needed after spay/neuter surgery is the responsibility of the owner/caregiver. TNR cats must be released back where they were trapped. Animals legally can not be in a trap for any longer than 24 hours.

While our program does not currently have a set fee per TNR cat, we greatly appreciate a monetary donation to help us continue this valuable program.

Appointment slots are limited, we currently have a waitlist. For scheduling information, please call our Spay/Neuter Clinic at (217) 809-1877 or email hsspayclinic@hsdmc.org. You may have to leave a message, we will call you back as soon as we are able.
